In the still of the night
All the world is in slumber
All the times without number
Darling when I say to you

I’ve been reading about Cole Porter all morning, and just watched De-Lovely, the biographical film on Cole Porter’s life. Not necessarily a groundbreaking film or even one of exceptional depth, but knowing a bit about Porter’s life adds exactly just that - depth - to his songs.

I’ve probably heard this song in its many renditions a dozen times. But getting a glimpse of his tumultuous marriage to Linda Lee, and learning about how he wrote this song for her gives it so much more gravity. Tender, vulnerable, and lovely, this is a love song I wouldn’t mind owning up to liking.

R: I NEED TO GO TO THE STORE.
M: What, why now?
R: ASDLSD SLKJ LQ. To get some feminine hygeine products.
M: Okay I'll go. The ones in the pink package right?
R: Why are you so nice?
M: Because we have to be nice to each other. And when you're not feeling nice, I have to be nice for the both of us.

Just came back from a lovely weekend in Bromont. Bromont is a lovely little place in the Eastern Townships, roughly an hour east of Montreal.

We first came here for our honeymoon, our wallets were pretty light from the wedding. Max’s sister found us a luxurious condo for cheap, and we spent a week just reading, eating, and resting. The beauty of this town is that there isn’t much to do, but you’re at the foot of Mont Brome and surrounded by rolling hills and thick forests. Doing nothing but admiring the general splendour of the place is the thing to do.

Since then, we’ve been back every year for our anniversary. We always stay in a condo in the same area, have a fancy meal out but also have burgers and beers at Brouemont,  and (my personal favourite) spend a day at Balnea Spa. I can’t swim, but a couple of hours spent reading by the private lake at Balnea is just as good (funny enough, Max actually got bit by a fish while swimming there this weekend. Maybe I’m better off out of the water!).

This weekend marked our two-year anniversary. Compared to couples with 25 or 50 years under their belt, two seems so small. But knowing what God has worked in our lives up til now, it was reason enough to celebrate.

P.S. Yeah, that’s Max painting with chocolate at the Festival du Chocolat, and him standing beside our dream car.

It don’t matter what I own
so long as you’re mine

Rest your weary head
We ain’t beaten yet

Baby we ain’t poor.

From the lovely Meaghan Smith. Just heard this song on CBC tonight and it was perfect for a cozy night in.
